I’ve been wanting to try Illamasquas products for ages now. As I was trained in Bare Minerals as a dermatologist, I’ve pretty much stayed loyal to them for the last few years. When me and my friend Maria went for our Boudoir Superstar photo shoot a while ago, the makeup artist used Illamasqua which made me more curious about their products. As I have most things I need in my makeup kit from Bare Minerals, I wanted to try a product that I could use on top of my normal makeup routine, and that’s where this lovely highlighter Gleam in Aurora cones into the picture. There are two varieties of this highlighter, Aurora which is a champaign tone, and Supernatural which is in a warm bronze colour. Because I have very fair skin, Gleam in Aurora is the perfect nuance for me.
I was quite surprised about the consistency and feel of the highlighter. It is a cream highlighter, but very lightweight, and it feels very silky on the skin. It contains lustrous pearlescent pigments, which creates the light reflection on your skin that gives your chosen areas of application a luxurious shine. I put my highligher on the top of my eyelid, just under the eyebrow, as well as just a little but above it. This makes the eyebrow “pop” and gives it more definition. I also put some in the inner corners of my eyes and on top of the cheek bone to create a more contoured face. There are so many places and different ways you can use a highlighter on your face and body. If you want to learn more about how to do that, I recommend reading this article here.
Highlighter is really an underestimated product, with it’s versatility of being everything from a part of your base eyeshadow to a face contouring agent, it’s really an essential in your makeup kit. I really enjoyed trying out this highlighter from Illamasqua, and it will now definitely be a part of my essential makeup kit.
