It’s official – summer is almost here! So the question is of course, are you summer-ready?
The changing seasons can play havoc on our hair and skin. Winter may be over, but has your skin and hair fully recovered? If not, now’s the time to do something about it! Below, I’ve listed some of the top summer beauty tips you’ll want to follow to look and feel great all summer long.
Stock up on sun cream and start using it every day to protect the skin against harmful UV rays. Even though the sun isn’t overly strong right now, the UV rays can still damage the skin, leaving it looking dull, flaky and also increasing the risk of wrinkles and fine lines.
The earlier you start applying sun cream, the better. Not sure which cream to choose? There’s some excellent guides and reviews online you can check out.
Don’t forget to choose a foundation with SPF as well, then you’re double protected, and also protected if you were to forget to put your normal sun cream on! My favourite foundation for SPF is Bare Minerals, and for face sun cream is Decleor.
To get rid of that horrible dead, dry and flaky winter skin, you’ll want to start exfoliating daily. Make sure you’re choosing a product which can be applied daily, otherwise it could prove too harsh for the skin, which could cause a reaction. If you’ve got sensitive skin, choose an exfoliator with acid in it as opposed to grains as it will be gentler on your skin.
You also need to moisturise twice a day if you aren’t already. Summer months are warm and skin can feel more oily because of it. Just make sure to use a moisturiser that works for your skin type and if it feels too rich in the summer, pick a lighter one to see you through the season.
My top pick for other fellow combination skins out there is Dermalogica Active Moist. I haven’t found anything that can beat it!
One might think I have a favourite brand of skincare products… When I trained as a dermatologist I used Dermalogica and still to this day (about 9 years later) I can’t find anything that works as well for my skin! #dermalogica #notanad #lovethese #skincare #dermatology #skincareroutine #peeling #dailymicrofoliant #activemoist #moisturiser #hydration #skinhydratingbooster #eyecream #agecomplex
Just like the skin, the hair needs protecting in the hot summer months too. Ideally, you’ll want to avoid washing it as frequently, wear it in a loose fitting style and invest in a light, leave-in conditioner. You may also want to consider using SPF based hair care products to protect it against the harmful rays.
Bare in mind that the sun can bleach your hair so if you’ve already got blonde hair you might go lighter in the summer if you don’t protect it! I’m currently using Olaplex in my hair to prepare it for the summer months as it’s strengthens the hair from the core, so hopefully that will keep my hair going strong all the way through summer.
Now you’ve got lush, glowing summer skin, why not top it off with a luxury fragrance? You’ll find lots of beautiful summer fragrances from companies such as Miller Harris. Investing in a gorgeous perfume will help you to feel good and really give you that summer vibe.
I also definitely recommend trying out some different body mists if you want something that is easily wearable in the day as well. I’ve got some different ones depending on what mood I’m in and then some more heavy fragrances that I wear in the evenings.
The above is some of the top summer beauty tips you can follow. Remember, your skincare routine definitely benefits from being altered to fit the changing seasons. So, if you currently use quite heavy products for example, make sure to switch to lighter ones so they don’t clog up the pores and result in excess oil build-up.
