It feels like the summer just arrived, but now is the time when shops are gearing up to introduce new Autumn/Winter 2016 lines to their shelves. But while we enjoy the final months of shorts and flip flops, what should we be looking for next season? Thanks to House of Fraser’s menswear team, I’ve been given some great hints about what to buy to be in-style in the colder months.
In terms of prints to look out for AW 2016 menswear is all about plaids and tartans. The ever-classic tartan shirt is going nowhere (neither is the tartan scarf) but the print is extending to trousers and suit jackets too – dare you rock the tartan suit to a winter wedding? And plaid? Get a coat in this to top-up your style stakes.
Horizontal stripes are going to be bigger and bolder than ever this autumn and winter. Usually popular in monochrome, they’ll now extend to include teals and reds, to update the classic to 2016. Choose loose knitwear and tees with this print.
If stripes and tartan don’t float your boat, there should be a number of patterns – namely in shirts – that you can test-drive with your winter look. There’s polka dots, busy florals (trust us) and big, bold multi-coloured designs. AW 2016 is the time to be bold with your prints.
For cuts and shapes, you’re looking at dress trousers and blazers for structure, contrasted with baggy knitwear if you need a more casual vibe. Think dress coats, ankle grazers and sharp bags and accessories.
There’s a very well-defined colour palette for the AW 2016 collection. Black features heavily, as it does every winter, and classic greys and navies also feature prominently. For a dash of colour, khaki can be added – especially as an overcoat, and various shades of red are expected – especially in knitwear such as scarves and jumpers.
