Moving into a new home is incredibly exciting and the start of a new chapter. We’re in the process of trying to find a new house and I can’t wait for that feeling when you get your new keys and can step into your new home for the first time. You are likely to have many big plans on what you want the house to look like, but renovating and redecorating can be daunting to start and it will be a lengthy process. It is important to be patient and not to become discouraged, as with some guidance you can quickly transform the property and turn it from a house into a home.

One Room at a Time

Firstly, it’s important to tackle one room at a time. This allows you to focus all your efforts on one area and not take on too much. You should also draw up a floor plan and budget for each room to keep you on track. The bedroom is a great place to start as this is where you will be spending a lot of time, or alternatively the lounge or a social area where you can relax and enjoy each others company.

Inject Colour and Personality

You will want to make your mark on the property and inject personality and colour at the start. The best way to do this is through painting the walls; this is also fast, affordable and will make a big impact on how the property looks and feels. Once you have the walls a colour to your taste, you can then hang paintings, photos and other items to add personality.

Furniture

With the walls complete, you will then want to add furniture. Invest in high-quality items and ensure that everything fits with the colour scheme/interior decorating style you have adopted. It is also crucial that you measure everything before purchasing and you are aware of the measurements in your new home. Do not buy everything at once and avoid matching all of the furniture – this would give your home a lifeless feel and look more like a furniture showroom.

The Windows

An aspect often overlooked by homeowners, the windows are one of the most important areas to address. Windows can transform a property by allowing plenty of natural light and fresh air to come through. It is worthwhile having windows which can easily be opened, shut and held open at any height, which makes steel sash weights a terrific investment. Components like this are available from hardware specialists, with Mighton being one example.
